“Parting Birds” – An Autumn Bridal Editorial

October 21, 2019

I’ve always been inspired by fashion editorials and the way they tell a story through clothing, so I wanted to see if I could do something similar with my bridal work. My inspiration for this autumn bridal editorial comes from the changing of the seasons, and that mixture of excitement and apprehension you feel when summer fades and fall is on its way, but you know winter is close behind as well. I also drew from one of my favorite reads, The Bear and the Nightingale, where a Russian winter is personified as an eerie figure that returns every year and somehow draws you in.

I myself have a love-hate relationship with cold weather, so this is my fairytale-style ode to everything it brings: the vibrant rust tones of autumn leaves, glowing sunsets and brisk evenings, the melancholy stillness of grey mornings, and of course, spooktacular Halloweens.

“Summer is leaving silently
Much like a traveler
approaching the end of an

amazing journey”

— Darnell Lamont Walker

“It was November;
the month of crimson sunsets,
parting birds,
deep, sad hymns of the sea,
passionate wind-songs in the pines.”

— L.M. Montgomery
